What You Should Know Before Going to America - Topic Powered by Eve For Enterprise
After reading the above, I'd like to write one which is part fictitious and part real.
I landed/un-boarded the bus at 4.00am at madiwala and one more wise gentle man, asked the driver after getting down, will i get bus to airport? wtf?..
i told him, you'll endup paying twice your airfair if you take auto and other ways, and took him till Hal and put him in BIAS-4 bus, so may be next time when someone comes to Bangalore, should take necessary precautions he he :-)
first things first, Bangalore is well connected but disconnected, from my experience, if you want a bus from Hal to banashankari, then you are dead, first take a bus to domlur "bridge", which is not actually a bus stop (nor a bridge), don't insist on a ticket, you'll save 2 rupees(in other words, the conductor is kind enough to make you save), and walk towards kormangala under the "bridge", again at the end of the bridge there is "not-a" bus stop, unless you are really unlucky your bus will stop there(actually the number of buses are overwhelming), in similar ways, there are (or will be many more routes), good luck
so all those from chennai (who probably thinks that auto-wallas are bandits) here is a welcome break, in most of the cases you wont be charged more then what the meter shows, so for short distances dont hesitate to take a auto-rickshaw.
its cheap (3 people to mg road in bus, Rs. 24, hell yeah, 30 in auto), and fast (do i have to say), and you really dont have to wait for the bus.
but the situation changes drastically, after 10pm and before 6am, that is when the entire Bangalore sleeps either in home or "pub", so there are only few problems, auto-walls behave like they are in chennai, so do the single driver buses, so i advice caution, dont reach Bangalore after 10 and before 5, if you happen to reach then pray the almighty, that you get a cab (a separate post is required to "praise" the cab wallas), to some what near locality and WALK (the weather is pleasant, and i have not been robbed even once in these 3 years)
so since we have looked into travelling, next is FOOD, so the ground rule is, EAT WHAT YOU GET, unless you have a really rich father, or you grow money in trees, food in Bangalore falls into either of the two categories, one, stand-and-deliver (kai yeendhi bahavan), two, super dooper places where the cost per head will be soo much you dont want to go back home and tell others how you got robbed.
but thankfully, MOST sagars/dharshinis/upahaars serve good edible food, at reasonable price, dont waste time in deciding the menu, you have only few options, the most popular one are.. (look at the menu).
next is stay, IFF you dont get free stay in someone's place (be it friend, relative or even enemy) DONT come to Bangalore, hotels/lodging in Bangalore is the worst decision one can make, even if your father is rich or you grow money, so orkut-facebook what ever the hell is available find "some" friend with whom your elder brothers friend went to kinder-garden, so you can stay there.
the next step is HELP from locals, even though its madness to expect people to help in a big city (what ever the reason maybe), help in Bangalore is Hmmm.. how should i say... NULL
sine the majority of Bangalore people are outsiders, its a criminal waste of time asking a techie(including me) for help ( i mean directions or bus timings ... ).
most importantly if you think that a BMTC bus conductor or driver can/will answer you questions, then you are doomed... so whom can you ask, "ask yourself", and if you find an answer then tell me.
how the fuck, i can miss the real fun of Bangalore, the trrraaaafficc, man i should say this, i love Bangalore traffic, its just impossible to ride/drive, however i'll blah some safety precautions for both you and vehicle to be safe.
first, we DONT respect signals
second, if it means RED, DONT stop if others are not stopping, coz, it might turn green in next few seconds, if we assume the signals R-right, L-left, S-straight, then if the flow is in all three directions, if they want to allow only one direction S, then the flow will b e like this
Green L S R
Yellow
RED
Yellow
Green S
so if you stop for that RED, then i'll curse you, so keep going,
so if you ask when should you stop, then wait for some poor soul, who'll come to the middle of the road and stand with his arms open, so if you want to go further, you'll have to kill him, ha.. then you stop.
third, respect the locals, we drive so damn fast/harsh/violent we wont hesitate to damage you, your vehicle (not to mention we have less regard for our life and vehicle too).
fourth, if you have some appointment to keep, leave before 3-4 hours, trust me i got caught in heavy traffic for 1/2 hour at 11PM (yes you are right, its PM)
fifth, have faith in GOD almighty, so you dont get mugged for drinking juice in large beer glass.
now i should say something nice, i am not the right person to ask about Bangalore, i am here for less then three years, so i dont have any clue of how many more years, i'll be here, so i did not have or have or will have any intention to search and figure out the Best-of-Bangalore and give it to you, now if you'll excuse me, i have a day job, and i should not be doing this

8 * 2 = 16 hours
it all began when all those "super" teachers whom i have encountered in my life, all would have been well if somebody would have encounter(ed) them before i met them, then 150 poor souls would have been saved.
Like every story has a beginning, this began on one sad depressed evening, i decided to canvas my parents about the evils of using windows, my dad got so energetic and demanded an outright lesson in using ubuntu.
But my uncle said யான் பெற்ற இன்பம் பெருக இவ் வையகம் , so i was given the idea of preaching linux to "Our kids" (this indian slang of whoever lives nearby, i mean the kids, become "our kids" to elders), so after a few (i mean one) brainstorming session, i decided to wear the teachers hat.
i was thinking or dreaming might be the apt word, to be the greatest teacher in the world, so i requested a few places to give their students a guinea pigs, and to my surprise they all agreed (dont ask how many), however i decided to be volunteer faculty, so NO FEE.
but the truth is the fear of stones if something goes wrong.
so i prepared (trust me, i was not like my exams) for days, examples, documents, presentations etc.. i was all prepared to unleash the full power of gouutha-ism.
so the D-Day arrived, i was armed with my laptop , dresses as appropriately i could, and i did shave for the occation.
and i reached the hall, and was greeted by a "STANDING" crowd, my god, all over my life i never stood up for any of my teacher,(unless they can see through the crowd and kick me for my marks in tests) , all i could see were 2/3rd year engineering kids, threatened with compulsory attendance (and it was taken), in few minutes i could see, half the class wants to go out, so i gave a break after first half hour, a bunch of students were missing, and first rows were "sparsely populated".
next comes the installation, thanks to ubuntu i could prove to them that linux is Not at all difficult.
by the time it was 11, the crowd started to you know.. students stuff, and trust me, i was not in any p0sition to control them, first the guilt feeling, they are not doing anything that i haven't done, and its fucking student life.
so after few lunch break requests, i with a kind heart gave them a break for one complete hour ...
the remaining was not different from above,
however the conclusion is a few buggers did really showed promise, however my biggest fear is they were "first benchers" (as opposed to backbenchers) the eager kids, me being a backbencher all over my life think, we make things better.
a few failures on my part, first not wanting to break their existing setups, that sucked the fun out of installing a lot of applications, and i really could not keep up my promise of showing them a kernel compilation and others,
i know that hose things can be learnt from internet, (as i pointed out to them) lets see ..
i however got some feedback, and i asked the organizers to remove the stupid attendance restrictions next time, if possible.
hmm... hoping for more

Money
why do you need money?
I believe that the money gives the power to bargain, be it for basic necessities , luxury or sometimes life

Food for thought
i think, this is the most abused term(obviously after democracy), yesterday in Transit@forum mall, i saw this, some blah, blah followed by "Food for thought".
If somebody can think after going into transit, he/she wont eat there, what can we do about it, just sit there, get something to eat and think about how to change this....

download youtube videos
i know there are hell-a-lot of ways to do it.. for those who like to do it the dirty way like me..
- Install the browser
- Install flashgot
- Install Python
- Download and save the python script say youtube-dl.py from http://www.arrakis.es/~rggi3/youtube-dl/
- Now restart the browser and Tools->Flashgot->More Options
- Click Add, give a name, say My Youtube Downloader
- Click browser and select python.exe
- and in command line arguments give [the full path of youtube-dl.py] -t [URL] example: C:\youtube-dl.py -t [URL]
- now create a shortcut in desktop or startmenu for "C:\program files\mozilla firefox\firefox.exe" -console, if you have installed it in different directory then choose your correct executable
- Launch the browser using the link/shortcut that you created in above step
- in flashgot menu select your download manager and right click on any youtube link and select "Flashgot link", switch to the console that opened while launching forefox and see the progress..
- the files will get stored in your home directory, say c:\documents and settings\
when downloading multiple files, the console output is really ugly in firefox 3, there is no output in console but the download proceeds without any problem

run away bride
PS: this is a true story about my distant(this word itself is relative) relative, so lets restrict comments to an extent it wont hurt...
it all started at 1am in the night, i was asleep in my room, i got this call from my mom, i got scared, they call me once in a week to inquire about the length of hair in my head/face, but 1am is very odd, is anything wrong...
me: Hello...zzz...
mom: suji got married...
.. what?.. when where, whom ...
some one, we are coming back from police station, some one... god only knows who...
so what happened...
this stupid girl, someone from nearby area of her college, three years, parents didn't accept.. so she decided to get married...
ok, i'll sleep ...
the next day, one of my uncles went to that guyz place to seek truce, let the girl come and stay with parents, after some days, they'll send her in proper way, after reception
you dont know about them uncle, these k.n.palayam(my village) will keep poison in water and kill me..
what the..
he called my mom to say this very good news.. and the title(murderers)..
my mom said, i dont know about others, but i definitely know about my husband...
so when ever there is a heated argument, we threaten each other , "i'll kill you"... he he he.., try me...
